-WEEK 3 AND 4 REVIEW-

Throughout Week 3 I felt my work flow slowing down, so I decided it would be better to stretch the achievements of one week over two.

These 2 weeks I have:

  • Produced an artist research page on John Singer Sargent in both my sketchbook and on my blog.
  • I've also produced studies of his sketches and his self portrait in both oil paint and acrylic, blog posts on these to follow later.
  • Begun to compare my artists work and lives in my sketchbook in preparation for an artist comparison blog post.
Next week, I intend to
  • Begin planning photo shoots, taking into consideration inspiration from pinterest and schedule them to the best of my ability.
  • As I'm on a pretty tight budget, I need to try and make trips that are both relevant and cost-effective. To gather the religious imagery I want I could visit Coventry Cathedral, although the modern Cathedral has a £10 entry fee. Also, I should look into another trip to the Herbert art gallery and if there are any art classes going on nearby.
  • Write up my artist comparison 
Half way through week 5 and I've decided to re-study Francis Bacon. As I was studying John Singer Sargent, I found myself gored and unmotivated. I blame the art block I was experiencing on this which after a moment of clarity and making this decision, I began to feel motivated again. I will keep up my Sargent research page but will not be using him in my artist comparison. Obviously I think he is a brilliant artist and a classic but I just don't feel as excited by his work as I am Bacon's. I was really hoping to not study Bacon in a way, because I felt like I should make my work less dark but I find I have a lot more to say about his work-I guess I'm a bit obsessed with his work but if it's one way I can stay motivated to create and keep me excited about art, then he can stick around for second year too.

MONOPRINTING

BASIC METHOD 1) Place Laminate/waterproof material onto a piece of newspaper.  2) Squeeze out a pea-sized amount of ink (water-based) onto the laminate and spread with the roller. If there is too much ink on the laminate then it will make a louder noise, the ideal amount of ink on the laminate corresponds to a quieter , sticky-sounding noise. 3) Roll out the ink from the laminate and onto a glass plate. 4) Lift up the plate and fold the newspaper in half, this will prevent excess marks around the laminate being printed as well. 4) Place the sheet of paper over the plate and use the hand baron to press the paper down, to create a crisper print and more solid a colour print. 5) Remove the paper from the plate and the ink will have left a print.
